Rolex Swan Cup - BVI
Yacht Club Costa Smeralda | BVIs | Mar 03-07, 2015 | SRM VII (Swan 601)
3rd (out of 20)
(out of 5)
Exciting series - raced against Swans 20' to 30' bigger in wind conditions over 20 knots with very big seas. SRM VII was in Maxi Class A - composed of Swans from 60' (SRM, "Fenix") to "Soleone" (90'). Four races over four days held in Virgin Gorda, British Virgin Islands. Most of the races were reaching legs with a few windward - leeward legs. SRM was very competitive upwind and downwind, but in a big breeze on a reach, it was impossible to keep up with boats 20 - 30' longer - challenge of a one number rating system (IRC). Still, a managed a 3rd - which included beating one of the 80s and a 60. Set a new SRM VII speed record at 23.6 knots - downwind in 20+ knots of breeze using the A4. Blew up the new A2 - twice. Great event run by the YCCS and Premier Racing. Just need to sort out rating system and classes for the next events.
