Stark Raving Mad X (J/100)
1st (out of 131)
1st
1st in Class 6 (out of 23), 1st overall out of 131. The breeze was steadier as compared to race 1. We were able to get a clean lane all the way out on the first leg - except we went too high and ended up VMG running (slower) to get to the top mark. Boat performed very well upwind. Really important to be very proactive on the main trim and traveller in the puffs and lulls.

Stark Raving Mad X (J/100)
1st (out of 128)
1st
1st in Class 6 and 1st overall (out of 128 boats) for Race 1. Very shifty conditions at the start with breeze picking up to 16-17 TWS as we passed Point Loma. Breeze lightened at the bottom mark - good decision to go with the L1 for the upwind beat. Good decision to go left after the bottom mark. Breeze picked up again at Point Loma. Very good decision to get to the Port / Point Loma side on the way in.
Need to watch and stay clear of the Columbia 50 at the start.

1st (out of 128)
1st
1st Overall (out of 128) and 1st in Class (out of 14). This was 9th overall win, and 9th class win. Great team, great preparation, great boat, and great sails. The hard work of the crew led us to these results in challenging conditions - light and shift air for most races.

Raving Madness (Ranger 33)
1st (out of 132)
1st
1st Overall (out of 132) and 1st in Class (out of 20) in the 2022 Edition of the San Diego Yacht Club "Hot Rum" Series. Light breeze (with puffs to moderate pressure) in all three races. Very tough competition with the Erikson 35 ("Wani Racing") in all three races and for the 1st two races with a Moore 24. Race 3 had a favorable ebb tide for the 1st 30 minutes, and the feature of an aircraft carrier leaving the harbor on the last leg in - quite an obstacle. In race 3, we led at all marks of the course. Races 1 and 2 also had two J/105s in the top positions, but race 3 was more favorable small and big boat conditions. Great job by the team. This is our 8th overall win in the SDYC "Hot Rum" Series since 2004 and across four different SRMs. 2005 - J145, 2006 RP 66, 2015 Ranger 33, 2016, 2017 and 2018 Swan 601, 2021 Ranger 33 (Steered by Tyler Sinks) and 2022 Ranger 33.

SRM VII (Swan 601)
5th (out of 124)
4th
5th in class (out of 124), and 4th in Class (out of 24). Light air conditions with lots of holes on the race course. This year's rating took a hit of about 1min, 16 seconds as compared to last year - which makes the series all the more challenging. Still, very happy with race 1 results. Race Committee made two errors: they did not sound any 1st warning nor fly any signal - which created mass confusion that they tried to clarify over VHF, and they placed the 4th mark of the course 0.47nm away from where it is noted in the SIs. Surprised no boats protested the RC for both or either of these.

5th
Breezy conditions led SDYC to run the "inside" course. The race benefited smaller boats as the time on the course is reduced in breeze. J/105s took five of the top 7 positions. On SRM, the Swan 601, we managed a respectable 5th in class and 24th overall (out of over 110).

we would have done even better but got caught on the wrong side of a wind shift on leg 3, and had the wrong sail short-tacking upwind toward the finish. still, a good result.

Race Committee shortened the race. Had they not, our wind would likely have been further extended.

8th in Class 1 out of 28 boats. Not the same results as our four previous 1sts (in class and overall), but still a fun series.
Race 1: Very light, patchy holes, very few tacks, jibes
Race 2: Light with wind at an angle that the race was a straight-line on every leg (no tacks, not jibes)

SRM VII (Swan 601)
1st (out of 137)
1st
1st Overall (137 boats) and 1st in Class 1 on the Swan 601, "Stark Raving Mad, VII". This was the 3rd year in a row for an overall win on the Swan 601, and 4th year in a row for an SRM program win - the Ranger 33 "Raving Madness" won overall in 2015.
The conditions this year were challenging and generally light. Race 1 was very light with holes all over the race course, race 2 filled in a bit but was still light, and race 3 - expected to be windy 3 days before, turned into another light air race for the 1st 2 legs until the breeze filled in.
Always a fun event, and fun sailing with a great team!

1st
1st Overall out of 135 boats and 1st in Class 5. Debut event for the fully restored 1976 Ranger 33 "Raving Madness".
Moderate to breezy conditions over the 11.9 mile course. We were helped by an ebbing tide at the start on the way out and a slack tide on the way in. Tough competition with the Ericson 35s.
The Ranger 33 is a handful fetching and reaching in a breeze. Angled, unbalanced spade rudder requires two hands and two braced feet to steer. Still - fun factor is very high!

SRM IV (J/125) (J125)
10th
10th
Top 10 finish among the fastest, larges boats. Even better, in our J/125 "Match races", our perfect record remains intact. Light air made up race 1 & 2. We had a brief touch on the bottom in race while avoiding foul ebb current on the way to the finish. The other J/125 parked it up. Missed race 3 - because the boats was sold.
